# Chinese roos

## Hibiscus rosa-sinensis

Chinese roos (Rosa chinensis) is een historische rozensoort die de basis vormde voor vele moderne rozen. Deze compacte struikroos wordt 60-120 cm hoog en bloeit van mei tot de eerste vorst met kleine, enkele of halfgevulde bloemen in roze, rood of wit.

De bloemen hebben een delicate geur en verschijnen in grote aantallen gedurende het hele seizoen. Chinese rozen zijn bijzonder gezond en hebben weinig last van ziektes zoals meeldauw of roetdauw.

### Waar plaatsen

De Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, ook wel bekend als de Chinese roos, groeit in de zomer het beste buiten op een beschutte warme plek en in de winter binnen op een lichte plaats met een temperatuur van 12/18°C. Vanaf dat de vorstperiode voorbij is, mogen de planten buiten staan. De plant houdt van een vochtige bodem, dus besproei de bladeren regelmatig als je in een droog klimaat woont. Gebruik goed doorlatende vruchtbare grond en zorg voor beschutting tegen sterke wind.

### Cultivars (Soorten)

Hibiscus rosa-sinensis is een veelzijdige plant met verschillende cultivars. Enkele populaire cultivars zijn onder andere Hibiscus syriacus, Hibiscus syriacus 'Oiseau Bleu', Hibiscus syriacus 'Woodbridge' en Hibiscus syriacus 'Red Heart'. Hibiscus syriacus staat bekend om zijn winterhardheid en diverse kleuren, terwijl 'Oiseau Bleu' indruk maakt met zijn prachtige blauwe bloemen. 'Woodbridge' biedt gorte paarse bloemen en 'Red heart' trekt de aandacht met zijn witte bloembladen en donker rood hart. Elke soort voegt unieke schoonheid toe aan landschappen en tuinen, waardoor ze geliefd zijn bij liefhebbers van bloeiende planten.

### Onderhoud

Plant in volle zon op vruchtbare, goed gedraineerde grond. Chinese rozen zijn minder veeleisend dan moderne rozen maar presteren het beste op humusrijke grond.

Water aan de voet van de plant, niet over de bladeren. Dit voorkomt schimmelziektes. Mulch om vocht te behouden en onkruid te onderdrukken.

Snoei licht in het voorjaar door dood hout en zwakke takken weg te nemen. Chinese rozen hebben minder drastische snoei nodig dan moderne rozen.
