# Chinese pioen

## Paeonia lactiflora

Chinese pioen (Paeonia lactiflora) is een klassieke vaste plant die in mei en juni de tuin vult met spectaculaire, geurende bloemen. Deze robuuste plant wordt 60-90 cm hoog en produceert grote, gevulde bloemen in wit, roze, rood of geel.

Na de bloei blijft het decoratieve, diep ingesneden blad mooi tot de herfst. Pioenen zijn echte tuinparel die elk jaar mooier worden. De plant kan decennia op dezelfde plek blijven staan en produceert steeds meer bloemen naarmate hij ouder wordt. De geur van pioenenbloemen is onvergetelijk en trekt veel insecten aan.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Zet de Chinese pioen op een plaats in de volle zon tot halfschaduw.

### Cultivars (Soorten)

De Paeonia is een zeer uitgebreid geslacht. P. lactiflora 'Sarah Bernardt' heeft lichtroze, dubbele bloemen. 'Karl Rosenfield' bloeit purperrrood.

### Onderhoud

Plant in de herfst op zonnige locatie in vruchtbare, goed gedraineerde grond. Zorg dat de ogen 2-3 cm onder het grondoppervlak zitten - te diep planten voorkomt bloei.

Water regelmatig maar vermijd wateroverlast. Pioenen houden van vochtige maar goed gedraineerde grond. Mulch om wortels koel te houden.

Ondersteun zware bloemen met pioenensteunen. Knip verwelkte bloemen weg maar laat blad staan tot het vergelt. Bemest jaarlijks in voorjaar met compost.

Pioenen zijn symbolen van geluk en voorspoed in de Chinese cultuur. Ze zijn uitstekende snijbloemen als je ze knipt in knopstadium.

Verschillende types bieden variatie: enkele bloemen voor natuurlijke uitstraling, dubbele voor spectaculaire bloei, en Itoh-hybriden combineren het beste van boom- en vaste pioenen.
