Deze compacte struik wordt 30-40 cm hoog en heeft vertakte stengels die volledig bedekt zijn met zilverwitte, viltige beharing. De kleine blaadjes zijn nauwelijks zichtbaar onder de dichte, wollige bedekking. Deze bijzondere plant brengt een zachte, sculpturale textuur in borders en containers. De zilverkleur contrasteert prachtig met donkere bladplanten en felle bloemen. Calocephalus behoudt zijn decoratieve waarde het hele seizoen door en is daardoor perfect als structuurplant. De bodemvochtigheid mag wat aan de droge kant zijn. Hij kan heel goed tegen zout en wind en is dus een excellente kustplant. Plantdichtheid: 1 tot 3 per m² ### Onderhoud Plant calocephalus in volle zon op goed gedraineerde grond. De plant heeft een hekel aan natte voeten en verdraagt droogte uitstekend. Op zware kleigrond voeg je zand toe voor betere drainage. Kies een warme, beschutte locatie voor optimale groei. Water spaarzaam - alleen bij extreme droogte gedurende lange periodes. Te veel water veroorzaakt wortelrot en doet de plant afsterven. Laat de grond tussen watergiften volledig uitdrogen. In containers wat vaker controleren. Snoei licht in het voorjaar om de compacte vorm te behouden. Knip uitstekende takken terug tot een mooi silhouet. Verwijder eventuele dode of beschadigde delen. Calocephalus verdraagt lichte vorst, maar kan terugvriezen. Bemesting is zelden nodig - de plant groeit van nature op arme grond. Op zeer arme grond geef je eenmaal per seizoen een lichte gift universele meststof. Te veel voeding maakt de plant weelderig en vermindert de decoratieve zilverkleur. In containers gebruik je goed drainerende potgrond gemengd met zand. Zorg voor goede afwatering en plaats potten beschut in de winter. Bij strenge vorst kan de plant als eenjarige behandeld worden. ### Dit wist je nog niet: Calocephalus is een trendy plant in moderne landschapsarchitectuur door zijn unieke textuur en kleur.
