# Bergthee

## Gaultheria procumbens

Bergthee wordt tijdens de herfsttijd in veel winkels verkocht. Het is een klein plantje met opvallende rode bessen.

Zolang het voldoende licht krijgt en de bodem vochtig blijft, kan je het plantje ook in de huiskamer zetten. Het plantje is wintergroen en het blad verkleurd roodbruin tijdens de herfst. De witte, klokvormige, hangende bloeiwijze verschijnt in juni - juli.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Een plaats in de halfschaduw in een vochtige bodem die zuur tot licht zuur is.

### Onderhoud

De plant vraagt weinig onderhoud. Wanneer de takjes en bladeren wat verdort zijn, knip je in april - mei de plant 5 à 10 cm boven de grond af. De plant gaat nu frisse nieuwe takken en blaadjes vormen. TIP: Wanneer je de bodem voor een specifiek plantje graag een beetje zuurder maakt, neem je enkele groene naalden van een naaldboom. Strooi deze uit rond de plantvoet van het plantje. De naalden zullen al snel bruin kleuren en hun inhoudsstoffen afgeven aan de bodem. Daar kan je plantje dan gebruik van maken.

### Dit wist je nog niet:

Bergthee dankt zijn naam aan de wilde variant in Azië en Noord-Amerika, waar men van het blad thee maakt. Uit het groene blad worden etherische oliën getrokken. De olie heeft een pijnstillende en ontstekingswerende werking.
