# Bergpijnboom

## Pinus mugo var. pumilio

 Bergpijnboom (Pinus mugo var. pumilio) is een compacte, kruipende naaldboom die perfect past in moderne en rotstuinen. Deze dwergpijnboom groeit langzaam tot maximaal 2 meter hoog en 3-4 meter breed, waardoor hij ideaal is voor kleine tuinen en hellingen.

Met zijn donkergroene, korte naalden en dichte, bossige groeiwijze biedt bergpijnboom het hele jaar structuur en winterinteresse. De plant is extreem winterhard en verdraagt wind, droogte en arme grond uitstekend. Perfect als bodembedekker op hellingen, in rotstuinen, of als accent in moderne tuinontwerpen.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Zet de bergpijnboom op een plaats in de halfschaduw of volle zon. De bodem mag neutraal en zelfs wat kalkrijk zijn.

### Onderhoud

Plant bergpijnboom in volle zon op goed gedraineerde grond. De plant verdraagt vrijwel alle grondsoorten, van zandgrond tot klei, zolang er geen wateroverlast is. Geef de eerste twee jaar na planting water tijdens langdurige droogte, daarna is de plant volledig zelfvoorzienend.

Snoei is zelden nodig door de natuurlijk compacte groeiwijze. Verwijder eventueel dode of beschadigde takken in het vroege voorjaar. Knip nooit in oud hout - bergpijnboom herstelt zich slecht van zware snoei. Voor een dichtere groei kun je de jonge scheuten ('kaarsen') in mei inkorten met de helft.

Bemesting is niet nodig - de plant groeit van nature op arme grond. Mulch rond jonge planten met dennennaalden of grind voor optimale groeiomstandigheden. Bergpijnboom is volledig winterhard tot -30°C en heeft geen bescherming nodig. De plant is bestand tegen zeewind en luchtvervuiling.

### Dit wist je nog niet:

Bergpijnboom is de perfecte keuze voor onderhoudsvriendelijke tuinen en xerofytentuinen. De plant komt oorspronkelijk uit de bergen van Centraal- en Zuid-Europa en is aangepast aan extreme omstandigheden. Verschillende cultivars bieden variatie: van 'Gnom' (zeer compact) tot 'Ophir' (goudgele winterkleur).

Ideaal voor moderne, minimalistische tuinstijlen waar structuur belangrijker is dan kleur. De plant combineert uitstekend met grassen, heide en andere laagblijvende planten. Perfect voor dakterrassen en containers door de wind- en droogtetolerantie. Hoewel bergpijnboom geen nectar produceert, biedt hij wel beschutting voor vogels en kleine zoogdieren in de winter.

De langzame groei (5-10 cm per jaar) maakt deze plant perfect voor permanente tuinontwerpen. Bergpijnboom is een investering voor decennia en past in elk klimaat. Deze plant ondersteunt duurzaam tuinieren door zijn lage waterbehoefte en onderhoudsvrije karakter. Verkrijgbaar bij Vlaamse tuincentra aangesloten bij Groen van bij ons.
