# Bellenplant

## Fuchsia sp.

Sommige van deze soorten blijven groen tijdens de winter en andere verliezen hun bladeren. De bladeren hangen kransgewijs, - afwisselend - of tegenover elkaar.

De bellenplant gedraagt zich als half-heester en verstopt zich tijdens de winter. Deze plant is matig winterhard. ​ De bloemen bloeien tijdens de zomer en de herfst vanuit de eindclusters of vanuit de bladoksels. Ze zijn buisvormig, meestal tweekleurig (​wit, rood, roos of paars) en gaan vaak hangen. De vruchten zijn bessen met veel zaadjes die verschijnen wanneer de bloem openbloeit.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Plant de Fuchsia in een zandgrond op een plaats waar de plant enkele uren volle zon heeft en dan weer halfschaduw.

### Onderhoud

Geef de bellenplant tijdens droge periodes voldoende water. Tijdens de zomer kan je compost toevoegen, dit beïnvloedt de bloei door de afgift van voedingsstoffen. Na de laatste vorst snoei je de plant terug tot 20 cm boven de grond. Dit bevordert de bloei van de plant en zorgt ervoor dat hij niet te groot uitgroeit.

### Dit wist je nog niet:

Van het hout van de Fuchsia wordt zwarte verf gemaakt. De bessen, bloemen en bladeren van de bellenplant zijn eetbaar. Gebruik het blad voor een thee, de bloemen zijn een mooie decoratie in een slaatje. Pluk de bessen pas wanneer ze heel donker paars, bijna zwart zijn. Dan zijn ze lekker zoet. Soorten met lekkere bessen zijn: Fuchsia regia, Fuchsia magellanica en Fuchsia genii.
