# Bastaard meelbes

## Sorbus thuringiaca 'Fastigiata'

Bastaard meelbes (Sorbus thuringiaca 'Fastigiata') is een elegante zuilvormige boom die perfect past in moderne tuinen en kleine ruimtes. Deze compacte lijsterbes groeit smal opgaand tot 6-8 meter hoog en slechts 2-3 meter breed, waardoor hij ideaal is voor smalle borders en stadtuinen.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Bastaard meelbes geef je een windbeschutte standplaats, verder stelt de boom weinig eisen aan de bodem. Hij groeit goed op arme gronden, verdraagt verharding en zelfs enige droogte.

### Onderhoud

Plant bastaard meelbes in volle zon tot halfschaduw op goed gedraineerde, vochtige grond. De boom verdraagt verschillende grondsoorten maar groeit het best op leemhoudende grond. Geef in droge periodes extra water, vooral de eerste jaren na planting.

Snoei indien nodig in de winter tijdens de rustperiode. Door de zuilvormige groei is weinig snoei nodig - verwijder alleen dode, beschadigde of kruisende takken. Geef in het voorjaar wat compost rond de stam. Mulch de boomschijf om onkruid te onderdrukken en vocht te behouden.

Bastaard meelbes is volledig winterhard en heeft geen bescherming nodig. De boom is bestand tegen luchtvervuiling en zout, waardoor hij geschikt is voor stad- en kusttuinen. Let op: jonge bomen kunnen snoei slecht verdragen - wacht tot de boom gevestigd is.

### Dit wist je nog niet:

Sorbus thuringiaca 'Fastigiata' is een kruising tussen gewone lijsterbes en meelbes, wat resulteert in deze unieke zuilvormige groeiwijze. De boom is perfect voor smalle tuinen, langs paden, in groepen of als solitair accent. De witte bloemen in mei zijn spectaculair en de oranje-rode bessen blijven lang aan de boom hangen.

Ideaal voor moderne, strakke tuinstijlen waar ruimte beperkt is. De boom biedt vier seizoenen interesse: lentebloei, zomergroen, herfstkleur en wintersilhouet. Perfect voor ecologisch tuinieren door de waarde voor bijen, vlinders en vogels. De bessen zijn technisch eetbaar maar bitter van smaak.
