# Adderwortel

## Persicaria bistorta

Adderwortel (Persicaria bistorta) is een opvallende vaste plant met dichte, cilindervormige bloeiaren in zacht roze tot wit. Deze winterharde plant bloeit van mei tot september en trekt bijen, vlinders en andere bestuivers aan. Met zijn hartvormige bladeren en compacte groeiwijze is adderwortel perfect voor natuurlijke borders, boerentuinen en vochtige plekken in de tuin. De plant is zeer geschikt voor beginnende tuiniers door zijn robuuste karakter en minimale onderhoudsbehoefte.

De adderwortel is winterhard, maar niet wintergroen. Hij zal dus tijdens de winter zijn blad verliezen om dan in het voorjaar nieuwe, frisgroene bladeren te ontspruiten. De bladeren zijn driehoekig-eirond en groeien in een wortelrozet waaruit een stengel ontspringt met de aarvormige roze bloeiwijze.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Een prachtige bodembedekker om als groep aan te planten in je plantenborder. De plant is niet bodemspecifiek. Hij vereist enkel een plaats in de zon tot halfschaduw waarbij de bodem fris en vochtig tot moerassig is.

### Cultivars (Soorten)

*P. bistorta 'Superbum'* is een hoge vorm waarvan de aren dichtbezet zijn met lichtroze bloemen.

### Onderhoud

De plant heeft de neiging om zich uit te breiden. Dit kan je echter wel, zonder al te veel moeite, corrigeren door de overige planten in het najaar of het voorjaar uit te steken en zo weer de gewenste vorm te bekomen.

Zet de adderwortel in halfschaduw tot volle zon op vochtige, humusrijke grond. De plant verdraagt ook droge periodes, maar groeit het best in licht vochtige omstandigheden. Geef regelmatig water tijdens droge zomers. Knip uitgebloeide bloemen weg voor een tweede bloei in de herfst. Snoei de plant in het late najaar terug tot de grond. Deel oudere planten elke 4-5 jaar in het voorjaar om vitaal te houden. Adderwortel is volledig winterhard en heeft geen bescherming nodig.

De adderwortel dankt zijn naam aan zijn slangachtige wortel die wel tot 1 m diep kan wortelen.

De plant is een mooie bijenplant, d.w.z. dat veel wilde bijen, hommels en vlinders hun nectar en stuifmeel komen halen.
